I was so excited when my daughter was born. I wanted her to grow up independent, strong, and confident. So I transformed my own life to model those things for her. It wasn't easy, money was tight, so I learned many new skills, like sewing and gardening, and did everything myself. I even felt like a single mum at times because my husband worked all the hours. But it was worth it. My daughter is now a confident young woman with a growth mindset. She knows she can achieve anything she sets her mind to - just like her mum. Thanks, Whitney Houston!
Being the first in my family to attend university, getting a first-class teaching degree in BA Hons. Ed QTS, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed when my achievement wasn’t celebrated by my family. Nevertheless, it was time to choose a career and I decided to become a primary school teacher. Ironic isn’t it? The girl who hated school, pursuing a career that would mean spending a lifetime back in school. I was naïve then, and I thought that I could change the world through teaching. I didn’t realise it at the time, but my self-esteem was really low. I realise now that I was looking to build other people in a subconscious attempt to build myself.
I had a breakdown and my immune system was at its lowest. I was in bed for one year with chronic fatigue. During that time, I read the book You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay. This book transformed my thinking and started me on the path to recovery. I spent the next decade of my life transformed by the works of people like Louise Hay, Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Teal Swan, Shakti Gawain, Doreen Virtue, and Denise Linn. I learned about chakras, Reiki (I’m a Reiki master), spiritual healing, crystals, tarot, Angel reading, aromatherapy, meditation, affirmation work, and I began to research how I can use my knowledge as a teacher and this ‘alternative’ stuff to start my new business. The immersive studying I did, inspired by these amazing teachers, transformed me into my authentic self and I am now on a mission to help others do the same. I believe that when we are our authentic selves, we are able to live our best lives and make a positive impact on the world.
When I published my book, Your Happy Child, I had no idea it would become an Amazon best seller in 2 categories - or that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would acknowledge my book when I sent them a copy. I was thrilled when my book launch was attended by celebrities and politicians. Vicki Michelle, Ian Duncan Smith, Samantha Seager, Hussain Manawar came to it and over 100 family, friends, local businesses and colleagues attended. My book is about how to raise happy, well-adjusted children. It offers practical advice and tips for parents on everything from dealing with tantrums to coping with sleep deprivation. I'm so gratified that it has resonated with so many parents and carers and that they have found it helpful. In 2022, my book was nominated for the global Author Elite Awards. Although I didn’t win, I was ranked in the top 10…globally!
In this somewhat unsettling world we live in, the role parents play in the development and education of their children has never been more important. As such, I feel it's my duty to support them with the knowledge and experience I’ve shared in my story.
Coaching is one way to do this. By working with parents to identify their goals and provide structure, guidance and resources, I help parents develop the skills and knowledge they need to bring more love into their home and the relationships with their children. In addition, coaching can help parents learn how to advocate for their children and navigate the educational system. By focusing on supporting parents through coaching, I can ensure that they are able to give their children the best possible start in life.
